Migrant Leaders Partnership with Smith & Nephew Delivers Deep Dive into STEM Careers

We are delighted to announce that the Migrant Leaders partnership with Smith & Nephew is continuing for a second year bringing insights, exposure and experiences to our deserving young mentees. Thank you everyone at Smith & Nephew.
Our next project delivered on 13th July, was a deep dive into STEM careers through a multi-workstream digital workshop for our mentees. This workshop challenged stereotypes and promoted diversity and inclusion in STEM careers. The Smith & Nephew team demonstrated the variety of careers available with STEM qualifications within one company. Our Mentees saw a mechanical engineering experiment and a technology pitch as examples of typical workshop tasks. The Talent Acquisition team provided insights into how recruitment works to help our young people consider how their skills and abilities translate to the workplace. We are delighted to bring our resilience module to life with our webinar with Winston Ben Clements on 8th July 2020.

Winston Ben Clements was predicted to live a life of isolation and pain due to a rare bone disorder known as Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI). This condition caused his bones to be extremely fragile, suffering over 200 fractures in his lifetime. Despite this, he has taken a stand for a quality of life that knows no excuses and no limits.

Winston has shared his story on stages, conferences and media platforms all around the world. He specialises in resilience and leadership training as well as diversity and inclusion.

Migrant Leaders Launches Young Leader Modules

We are proud to launch the Migrant Leaders Young Leader Modules. This quarter was in part about continuing to deliver our comprehensive programme of conferences, workshops and mentoring outlined attached. To gain the best outcomes from our development programme, we have further strengthened the support we provide our 240 young mentees and 250 senior mentors who work in a wide variety of fields across more than 95 leading firms. One of the ways we are providing deeper support to our mentees and mentors is through the launch of our Digital Zone, sharing our charity’s resources, guidance and our Young Leader modules as an additional framework our mentors can utilise to have quality mentoring conversations. We developed our Young Leader Model to enable young people from underrepresented backgrounds to build the success characteristics needed to fulfil their potential and gain a mindset of giving back to society.
