Migrant Leaders welcomes new Patron, James Thomson CBE

Migrant Leaders is delighted to announce the appointment of James Thomson CBE as a Patron. His commitment to social mobility and extensive experience across business and public service will support the charity’s work to widen opportunity and help talented young people progress into professional careers.

James brings more than three decades of leadership experience across financial services, housing, policing, education and philanthropy. A Chartered Accountant, he has held senior executive and board positions across the public and private sectors and serves as Deputy Chair of Policy and Resources at the City of London Corporation. He was appointed CBE in the 2025 New Year Honours for services to policing and inclusion, recognising his longstanding contribution to public life.

Migrant Leaders supports young people from under-represented and deprived communities, including those from migrant backgrounds, irrespective of origin or circumstance. Its national programme provides mentoring, leadership development, career insight and access to professional networks at no cost to young people or educational institutions. More than 2,250 volunteer mentors, many in senior roles across FTSE 100 companies and other leading organisations, share their time and experience to help young people build confidence, develop their strengths and pursue their ambitions.

James’s support will build on the work of the charity’s Patrons, team, mentors and partners. As Migrant Leaders continues to grow, his experience and connections will help strengthen relationships across business, education and civic institutions, including in the City of London. These partnerships are central to broadening career exposure, creating meaningful work experiences and helping more young people access opportunities for long-term progression.
