We are delighted to launch EduTech Kids, a charity scheme for disadvantaged primary and secondary school kids. We aim to help alleviate digital poverty in education by providing laptops, smartphones and other digital equipment for their homes, donated through mobilising our network of corporate partners. The main aim of this scheme is to help boost digital inclusion for young people and to close the gap in education and development which has widened further for disadvantaged communities due to Covid-19. This scheme is part of our charity’s wider response to Covid-19 and economic downturn which disproportionately impacts disadvantaged and ethnic minority families.

During a workshop co-organised by Warwick’s EUTOPIA partner the University of Ljubljana, Elham Fardad delivered a presentation about inclusion and diversity in corporate spheres, sharing her experiences and advice from over two decades in senior leadership roles across global businesses. She discussed how students can discover job opportunities and create connections on the global stage, such as enrolling in virtual internships and taking part in mentoring programmes with experienced professionals.

We are pleased to be launching Mentee Mentor, a charity mentoring scheme for disadvantaged primary school children. We provide our charity’s highest achieving mentees already established at university to mentor the younger scheme participants through digital sessions in after school clubs, offering them mentoring, role modelling and tutoring in Maths and English. Concurrently, this provides them with a source of income during their university studies, a way of utilising their talents and a sense of pride in their social impact.

Migrant Leaders has launched its long planned Migrant Leaders Opportunity Fund to enable exceptional migrant students to attend top universities. Our talented migrant students often find themselves in a situation where, despite gaining offers to study at top universities, they may not be entitled to student funding. This sometimes comes as a shock to them as many have been here for years and made Britain their home. Israel Johnson, Migrant Leaders Mentee and one of the recipients of the fund says “My story began when I moved to the UK in 2010 with my family when we sought safety from the violence of Boko Haram in Nigeria. I want to dedicate my life to the field of science but am ineligible for student finance, Migrant Leaders is giving me that opportunity by paying for my tuition fees to study Biomedical Science at the University of Warwick.”
